campX Electric Wagon Camping Gear Guide

by Ryan Delaney 20 Aug 2026 0 Comments

A campX electric wagon camping gear guide starts before the cooler is packed. It starts in the driveway, when you realize the campsite is not the problem. The walk from the car to the site is.

The DYU campX Foldable Electric Wagon is built for that awkward gap between vehicle and camp. It is an electric wagon, not an e-bike: no pedals, no commuting promise, no speed story. The live US product page lists campX at $1,199, with a 1200W high-torque rear dual drive, 772 lb load capacity, 183L cargo bed and a top speed of 7.5 mph.

I like that low speed. Camping gear is heavy, uneven and annoying. A hauler should feel calm, not fast.

campX Electric Wagon Camping Gear Guide Basics

Pack by job, not by bag. Food, sleep, cooking, tools, water and comfort should each have a zone. When everything gets tossed into the 183L bed, the first thing you need is always under the heaviest bin.

Camping zone Best position in the wagon Reason
Cooler and water Low and centered Heavy items keep the wagon stable
Tent and sleeping pads Rear or top layer Bulky but not dense
Cooking box One side, handle outward Easy to grab at the site
Lanterns and first-aid Small top bag Do not bury the things you need fast
Trash bags and towels Outer pocket or top corner Useful before camp is fully built

The REI family camping checklist is a useful starting point because it shows how quickly small items multiply. campX does not make packing discipline unnecessary. It makes discipline more valuable because you can carry more.

Use The Cargo Bed Without Chasing The Limit

The headline number is huge: 772 lb. I would not build every trip around that number. Capacity is a ceiling, not an invitation to pile awkward gear until the wagon becomes hard to steer.

In real camping use, the smarter question is balance. Put dense items low. Keep soft items on top. Leave one handhold path clear so you can grab, lift, or shift gear without unpacking the entire bed.

campX has fully Ackermann mechanical steering, which helps the front end track cleanly around corners. Ackermann steering means the inner and outer wheels turn at slightly different angles, helping the wagon turn without scrubbing. You feel that when leaving a gravel parking lot and threading between picnic tables.

That said, no steering geometry fixes bad packing. If the cooler, water jug and cookware all sit on one side, the wagon will tell you at the first turn.

Let The Motor Do The Dull Work

The 1200W dual-drive system matters because camping hauls are repetitive. You are not asking for speed. You are asking for the same steady pull across gravel, grass and a slight uphill path after six hours in the sun.

Rideable mode makes sense when the path is open, the load is settled and you have room to turn. Tow-Assist mode is the better choice near tents, kids, uneven ground, or tight campsite lanes. Walking beside the wagon gives you more control and less drama.

That switch in mindset is important. The product is electric, but the best use still feels deliberate. I would rather make two calm trips than one heroic load that has me fighting the handlebar every ten feet.

Plan The Car-Trunk Fold Before Sunset

campX folds down to 18.9 x 11.4 x 29.5 inches. That is the hidden camping feature. A wagon that hauls well but eats the whole trunk creates a different problem on the way home.

Do the fold once before the trip. Not at the campsite, not in the dark, not with wet shoes and a line of cars behind you. Fold it at home, put it in the vehicle, and decide where the tent, cooler and chairs will sit around it.

The same logic applies at camp. If cleanup usually happens after sunset, leave one dry towel and one small light accessible. You will use both before the wagon goes back into the car.

Why LiFePO4 Fits Outdoor Hauling

campX uses a detachable 36V 8Ah LiFePO4 battery. LiFePO4 is a lithium iron phosphate chemistry, generally valued for thermal stability and long cycle life. The Battery University battery type overview explains why different lithium chemistries trade weight, energy density and safety in different ways.

For an electric wagon, I like the choice. This is not a product chasing top speed. It is a hauler that may sit in a garage, car trunk, warehouse, campsite or storage room. A safer, steadier battery personality fits that role.

Still, treat it well. Do not leave the battery baking in a closed vehicle. Do not charge in wet conditions. Let the wagon cool after a hard uphill pull before plugging in.

The Practical campX Camping Verdict

campX makes the most sense for campers who move heavy but predictable gear: coolers, water, tent boxes, camera bags, outdoor kitchen bins, folding chairs and tools. It is less useful if your campsite is always next to the car or if every trip involves narrow stairs.

Compared with a normal pull wagon, the difference is fatigue. On the second trip from parking lot to site, the electric assist stops feeling like a luxury and starts feeling like the feature you should have bought years ago.

The National Park Service Leave No Trace principles are a good reminder: a good campsite workflow also means leaving the site clean. A wagon helps if it makes hauling trash, wet towels and packed gear back out just as easy as bringing them in.

Frequently asked questions

Is campX an electric wagon or an e-bike?

campX is an electric wagon, not an e-bike. It has no pedals and is designed for hauling gear, not commuting or road transportation.

How much camping gear can campX carry?

The rated load is 772 lb with a 183L cargo bed. In real camping use, balance and control matter more than using every pound of capacity.

Will campX fit in a car trunk?

It folds to 18.9 x 11.4 x 29.5 inches. Test the fold at home before a trip so you know how it fits with coolers, tents and chairs.

Why is campX limited to 7.5 mph?

It is built for controlled hauling under load. The low speed helps keep heavy gear stable on gravel, grass and campsite paths.

Can I use campX for outdoor events too?

Yes, but this guide focuses on camping. For events, think in repeated small hauls: water, signage, tools, folding tables and cleanup supplies.

I am Ryan Delaney, a Colorado-based outdoor gear reviewer who tests camp tools by packing them badly first, then fixing the system. My notes here come from family camping, small event setups and the real walk between parking lot and site.
